SÜDPACK Medica expands PharmaGuard® production to meet growing pharmaceutical demand

28 November 2025

SÜDPACK Medica, a leading supplier of sustainable pharmaceutical packaging solutions, has officially launched a major production expansion in Erolzheim, Germany. The move reflects rising demand for their PharmaGuard® blister concept and underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the circular economy.

PharmaGuard® is a recyclable PP mono-material alternative to conventional aluminium/PET laminates, designed for solid pharmaceutical applications. The Erolzheim site expansion will include:

  • An ISO 7-certified cleanroom for GMP-compliant production
  • A new extrusion line and slitting machine
  • A regranulation unit to recycle production-related plastic waste
  • Supporting technical infrastructure for future growth

Construction is expected to be completed by June 2026, with commissioning and production startup scheduled for Q3 2027.

Second-generation leaders Johannes Remmele and Carolin Grimbacher emphasise that PharmaGuard® not only meets current PPWR requirements, but also significantly reduces CO2 impact compared with traditional laminates. The expansion is a strong market signal, highlighting SÜDPACK’s role in advancing green transformation and circularity in pharmaceutical packaging.

The project will create approximately 50 new positions, with up to 120 additional jobs by 2030, strengthening SÜDPACK’s contribution to the local economy.

As a forward-looking, family-owned company, SÜDPACK Medica continues to combine innovation with sustainability. Their PharmaGuard® expansion demonstrates how pharmaceutical packaging can evolve to meet both market and environmental demands.
