ACG has launched RecycloPod™ PP Ultra, a polypropylene-based blister packaging system designed to combine moisture and oxygen barrier protection with design for recyclability.
While polypropylene blister solutions can meet moisture barrier requirements, achieving sufficient oxygen protection remains a challenge for certain pharmaceutical applications. RecycloPod™ PP Ultra was developed to address this gap, particularly for sensitive formulations where packaging performance is critical.
Developed in collaboration with customers, the system features a PP/EVOH/PP forming structure. Combined with a polypropylene lidding film, it creates a predominantly polypropylene blister designed to support thermoforming and sealing on pharmaceutical packaging lines.
The launch also marks the introduction of ACG’s new “Pod” family of sustainable packaging solutions, developed with future packaging needs and evolving regulatory requirements in mind.
The development comes as pharmaceutical manufacturers prepare for the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and increasing attention to packaging recyclability. The challenge for the industry is to advance more circular packaging solutions while maintaining the barrier properties required to protect pharmaceutical products.
According to ACG, RecycloPod™ PP Ultra is intended to address both priorities without requiring manufacturers to compromise on product protection.
