Metsä Board, a key player within the Metsä Group, has once again been recognised for its outstanding environmental performance, securing a place on CDP’s Triple A List. This distinction highlights leadership in corporate transparency and action on climate change, forests, and water security.
The recognition comes from data submitted through CDP’s 2025 Climate Change, Forests, and Water Security questionnaires. Out of nearly 20,000 companies assessed worldwide, Metsä Board stands among an exceptionally select group, with only eight companies achieving this level of distinction in 2024.
Esa Kaikkonen, CEO of Metsä Board, emphasises the company’s ongoing commitment: “With a 56% reduction in fossil-based Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions from 2018 to 2024, we are already below the 1.5°C Paris-aligned 2030 emissions level. The high score in CDP assessments year after year confirms our systematic work across all three areas: climate, forests, and water.”
2025 marks the fourth occasion that Metsä Board has achieved the Triple A rating, reflecting consistent leadership in environmental transparency. The company has also appeared on CDP’s Climate A List and Water A List for the tenth time, and the Forest A List for the fourth time. Progress toward its 2030 climate and water targets is detailed in an interactive roadmap available on the company’s website.
As CDP’s stringent disclosure framework continues to reshape expectations across industries, Metsä Board’s achievement raises an important point for the wider packaging and materials ecosystem: sustainability leadership is no longer defined by ambition alone, but by measurable, transparent progress. As the sector accelerates its transition toward low-impact materials and responsible resource management, all eyes will be on how consistently such high standards can be matched — and sustained — in the years ahead.
